When Charlie Byers used to touch me down by the creek, he'd say, "Now, don't you worry, honey, it's your secret game with me" And, I said I'd be quiet, but, I didn't seem right, and I didn't like it, but, I couldn't fight 'cause he was stronger than I was.... and, when can you feel again after your youth's been stolen? Now, I've endured many times with Charlie, never telling a soul, and, if I deny it, over and over, then it wasn't real at all.... And, I've always kept quiet, but, I've never felt right, and my little girl heart can no longer fight, the hurt is stronger than I was..... and, when can you feel ok after your youth's been stolen? When you gonna find your peace of mind, love? When ya gonna tell me something good about it? Well, Come here, my dear, You can’t keep on living alone, Can’t keep moving along in fear, And I’ve never seen hurt so real, As in your self-destructive heart, Lashing out, going for a kill, I can’t deal….. So, come here, darlin’, Don’t talk that way, Come here, darlin’, Don’t throw it away….. Don’t hang up, I’ll be there in a few, Love, Please, don’t hurt yourself before I get there….. My dear, I’ve found you here, Naked, in the floor, Laying in a puddle of swill, And I know you’ve had your fill, But, you’ve got to look up and live, Instead of laying here, trying to drink yourself to death….. Enveloping darkness, Why can’t I feel? My forced smile May seem sincere….. But, when I pull this blade across, Slow, and bleed it out, You’ll know how I’m hurting deeply, Yeah, you’ll see it….. You’ll see it….. You’ll see it….. You’ll see it….. The only thing that saved me Was divine love, I’ll tell you, it’s the only way You can survive it. The only way, (Divine Love) The only way, (Divine Love) The only way, (Divine Love) The only way…… Copyright Moriah Haven Lawson, 2015. Nereid Tree, ASCAP

"Skinnier, (Not) Happier" The damage is done now, Charlie, I can't seem to learn to "love me." The girls in movies that I wanna be give me weight loss tips in this month's magazine..... Girl, this will do it here, ya see, a little, tiny bump never hurt nobody..... the pounds will just shed away, dear, just one bump to get us through this evening.... Just another 5 down, darlin', just another line down, now. It doesn't matter you stole from your own Mother, you gotta get that fix somehow, 'cause when you're higher, you'll get thinner: you'll be "happy", yes, so "happy", when you're higher, you'll get thinner, you'll be "happy", yes, "so happy"...... Just another 5 down, darlin', just another line down, now..... it doesn't matter they've cut your gas & water, you gotta get that fix somehow, 'cause when you're higher, you'll get thinner: you'll be "happy", yes, so "happy", when you're higher, you'll get thinner, so you can be "happy", yes, "so happy"...... No one is left to care here, in your constructed closet of your fear, the pain just grows every day here..... this one could make me forget forever, dear..... Now, you're gonna find out, layin' in your cold cell, sweating profusely, they'll keep your vitals going, hook you to some fluids, but nobody cares that you've o.d.'ed...... You've gotta stop this mess now, darlin', you're gonna die, or you'll get out, the options don't really grow much broader, you've gotta get some help right now, And, you're higher, and you're thinner, but, you're not happy, you're not happy, and you're higher, and you're thinner, but, you're not happy, you're not happy..... http://moriahhaven.com/track/790478/skinnier-not-happier… Copyright 2015 Moriah Haven Lawson

Well, "How could this happen?" you'll find yourself asking. "How could it be, someone has so violated me?" Well, you'll wake up in the morning, you'll feign a smile, you'll go to work, and, you'll forget it, for a while...... It's just one of those things, darlin', that makes you grow. It's just one of those times that we must understand: There are so many things we do not know, but, we keep on moving: one foot in front of the other, and we keep on going: knowing that we're growing into a stronger place. So, when I was seven, I knew this Charlie, he was a trusted friend of the whole family, and I wasn't sure how to tell him I didn't like that way that he kept touching me behind the house..... and, it kept happening, until I was eleven, Charlie had appreciated how I was growing.... and...he took us to the creek, and, while the boys were swimming.... he knew out there, there wasn't even a chance for screaming.... But, you'll bet, this time, darlin', I turned him in, and he left behind his presence for science, and there is just one thing he didn't understand, is that I keep on moving: one foot in front of the other, and I keep on going: knowing that I'm growing into a stronger place. What can you do, when it comes to this? You got to the bottom of this, that seemed bottomless, move on until the hurt fades away, in the loving arms of sweetest Artemis. Your quiver is empty from all the stress, of fighting off the death that clings from this mess, but, now, you've found your own power, dear, pick up your bow, and travel without fear, and, when you're feeling lonesome, darlin', when you're feeling blue, you've gotta call on the name of love, it's what will see you through. So, what did you do when it came to this? Got to the bottom of this, which seemed bottomless, now, you can find your way to the stream: where living waters flow, to your heart, in a love: redeemed. about

This storytelling project is an artistic retelling of Moriah Haven's own story, using concept characters to construct the stories of women healing after sexual abuse. In chapter 1, Maia "Tugg" Heartstrings tells her story of admittance, releasing shame and guilt, her impending struggles, and finally, the acceptance, to begin a lifelong journey of healing after abuse. In chapter 2, Ms. Gypsea Salt tells the story of the reclamation of her life, and her sensuality, after sexual abuse.
